A Historic Bed & Breakfast in the Heart of New Bern, NC, which is located at the confluence of the Neuse and the Trent Rivers, about 45 miles from the Crystal Coast of NC. Perhaps it’s the historic atmosphere of this circa 1800 home, centrally located in the historic district of New Bern, that draws you in. Maybe it’s the ease of free on-site parking or being within walking distance of many popular attractions.
The original wood frame house was built in 1810 to 1820 for Henry H. Harris, who was married to Hannah Robertson in 1792. The property stayed in that family until 1866. Around 1850 the original three story home was added onto with one story shed rooms where the original back porch was located. The shed rooms were raised to two stories around 1915 and eventually a one story addition was made to the rear of the home. That addition serves as the Owners quarters presently.
In the main house, all guest bedrooms are on the second floor, all guest areas are on the first floor. The Master Stateroom has a spacious private bath. It also has a TV/DVD player and a king-sized bed. The Nautical Room is a lovely, romantic room with an adjacent bathroom (bathtub/shower unit). It also has a TV/DVD player and a queen-sized bed.
The Twin Rivers Room has an adjacent bathroom (bathtub/shower unit) and two twin beds. It also has a TV/DVD player. Great room for kids or two close friends!
There is a separate cottage in back of the main house which is the fourth guest room, called the
Crow’s Nest. It features two queen beds, walk-in shower, microwave, sitting area and front porch. It is a great hideaway for guests who prefer more privacy.
Rates range from $99 to $169 per night, and vary seasonally based on occupancy. The business started with very little advertising in July of 2012. It has grown by word of mouth and referrals of overflow from other B&B's in the area to a steady business on weekends. Spring Summer and Fall are the busier times of year in New Bern when the weather and nearby beaches and rivers attract vacationers. New Bern has been a destination for retirees for over thirty years, and people from all over the country have chosen to retire here. Most people visit New Bern two or three times before they purchase a home, and that creates good demand for a charming Bed and Breakfast.
