2 River Road, Cape Neddick Maine Was built in 1780 and once was the very center of a Bustling and Prosperous Community. With a very active shipping port on the Cape Neddick River, goods and services were sold and bartered in the town center now located on the corner of River Road and US1.
In the 1920's during the great depression the house was owned by the Maxwell family, and in an effort to support the family, rooms in the house were rented out and the 1st of 16 cottages were built. For several decades 2 River Road was run as Maxwell's Motor Court, catering primarily to people traveling from Boston, New York, New Port, and similar cities north of Bangor and Bar Harbor. Weary travelers would spend the night and after morning tea would proceed on their journey. 1962 Brought about the most changes at 2 River Road. The Hoyt Family with their 3 children purchased the property with the house, Barn, and 16 cottages. The Hoyts ran a successful business and raised their 3 children at 2 river road for over 51 years.

In April 2013, neighbors at 97 River Road, Ken Baublitz & Joe Knapp, decided that Hoyt's Cottages need to be saved and restored to it former charm...and so the 4th chapter of 2 River Road began. Having previously owned, built and renovated over 60 properties together, Ken & Joe knew what was required and enthusiastically jumped in head first becoming one of southern maine's few Pet friendly destinations.! After learning the business during the 2013, the property was shut down in September and the transformation began. From the ground up, everything was addressed to bring the cottages up to modern day standards with ample electric, air-conditioning, heat, and new everything from showers to kitchens to beds, linens, lamps, rugs, down to the silverware! Every effort was made to create a comfortable, cozy and relaxed atmosphere while preserving the Charm of the 91 year old wood structures and the 235 year old Inn.
