The George and Bettie Bryan House

Wilmore, KY   Offered for sale at $545,000

The George and Bettie Bryan House circa 1830’s is on the National Historic Register of Historical Homes and listed with the Blue Grass Trust. It is located on the scenic and historic Harrodsburg Road US 68 just 10 minutes South of Lexington on the way to Shakertown. It has been totally renovated and updated and the owners added a two story gallerie porch modeled after the Joseph Bryan House, Waveland.

In his book Antebellum Architecture of Kentucky Clay Lancaster describes some of the Greek Revival features of the home like the massive fluted columns which support the portico, two collonettes supporting the entablature above the entrance and the large rooms inside with 11’ ceilings on both levels. It is a perfect example of Southern country living but near a major city.

The foyer has a curving grand staircase to the second level with large landings. The first floor has a living room, library, dining room with a large modern kitchen just off of it, eating area, family room and full bath. There are two bedrooms upstairs both with full baths and both suites have access to the gallerie porch. There are 6 fireplaces ( 2 working ). The carriage house with 3 car garage and pet washing station has a guest apartment on the second level with great room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a full bath.

The property sits on 11.3 acres of rolling Blue Grass land and is surrounded by four board white horse fences. There are two barns with water and power, hay storage, and five stalls. There is also an equipment barn. There are 2 paddocks, one 5 acre field, 2 grooming areas and 2 dry lots. Adjacent to the main house is an in-ground solar heated pool with large patio all surrounded by a 6’ aluminum “Wrought Iron” fence. The original Summer kitchen serves as the pool house.

The main house has geothermal heating and air conditioning and the electric bill averages $175/ month. It also has recirculated hot water to the baths. Current taxes run about $3,000 / year. There is a security gate at the entrance that can be operated remotely and from the main house for added privacy.
