Built in 1840, The Carriage Inn has been operated successfully as a B&B since 1985. It is listed on The National Register of Historic Places and is a Jefferson County Historical Landmark.
When you enter the Main Level, the 12’ high ceilings of the Foyer and the massive doors to the Parlor and the Dining Room captivate you. The Copper Beach Suite is on this level complete with a full bath, a whirlpool tub, and a private screened patio. Also, there is a Powder Room, the Kitchen, the Dish Room, the Butler’s Pantry, and the Laundry.
On the Second Level there are three Guest Rooms (Sunrise Room, Mary Rutherford Room, Garden View Room) all with private baths. Additionally, there is the Shenandoah Suite with private bath and a delightful Sun Room.
On the Third Level is the Robin’s Nest Suite and private bath. There is a Storage Room on this level, also.
The Innkeeper’s Suite with private bath is on the Lower Level. Additionally, there is abundant storage on this level.
A few feet from the Main House is The Carriage House, built circa 1820. Here you have a large suite with Living Room, Bedroom, private bath and large whirlpool tub in a separate area. Additionally, there is an upstairs bedroom that is perfect for children.
The Carriage Inn is steeped in Colonial and Civil War history. The Civil War era owners hosted Confederate Generals Turner Ashby, J.E.B. Stuart, Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, and Robert E. Lee. In September 1864, Union Generals Philip Sheridan and Ulysses S. Grant met in the Inn’s dining room to plan The 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign.
The Carriage Inn has demonstrated a consistent business over the years and has a Net Operating Income (NOI) that would allow an owner to service a significant mortgage.
