The story of The River House @ The Morris Estate began with Ernest Melvin Morris, a local entrepreneur known for his visionary business skills and generous charitable contributions. He purchased parcels of land in Southwest Michigan along the St. Joseph River with a passion for reforestation. In the 1930s, Morris Farms was born. E.M. Morris and his family continued to expand the farm and had many unique and historic structures built and placed on the 1,000 acre property. Over the years, the Morris Family and local residents enjoyed countless gatherings at Morris Farms.

The property's quaint atmosphere and rich heritage have been maintained through careful restorations. Renovations to The River House have created a luxurious retreat for guests. It is perfect for bridal parties, small weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, and Notre Dame game weekends. Visitors traveling through Michigan or South Bend enjoy romantic getaways in one of our beautiful rooms.

The main house holds 6 bedrooms (with private baths) that are meticulously appointed with classy, yet comfortable furnishings. The great room is perfect for large gatherings, small weddings, or private dinners. A baby grand piano is the focal point in the cozy game room complete with poker table and sitting area with fireplace. A luxurious spa basement with relaxation lounge and massage treatment rooms is a guest favorite. Other common areas include several living rooms, office, conference room, basement arcade and wet bar/snack room.

Outdoor spaces offer various retreats from the stress of life. Scenic waterscapes can be viewed from the back patio, which also holds a large hot tub. Professional landscaping includes seasonal enjoyment with flowering plants and a beautiful waterfall feature. The sprawling grounds include a screened picnic pavilion with campfire pit, historic covered bridge, ponds, forest, and groomed walking trails.

Nestled next to the main house is a quaint cabin with bed, bath, kitchenette & living room. Once a trading post from the 1800s, it has been renovated into fully functional guest quarters with a separate well and hvac. The stunning views from the sitting room overlook the ponds, trails, and river.
