Part of the charm of owning the Lantern Inn B&B is the history that connects it to Weirs Beach, Lake Winnipesaukee. It was built at the end of WWII by Byron Hedblom, as a summer family home. A shipbuilder by trade, Byron is noted as being the gentleman to bring the M/S Mount Washington cruise ship to Lake Winnipesaukee. He also built two smaller vessels, the Sophie C, which is the oldest floating mail boat in North America that still delivers mail to some of the islands within the lake, and the Doris E, which shuttles passengers back & forth to Meredith. Both boats dock at Weirs Beach alongside the Mount Washington.
