Built in 1840, the Bruce House is one of the oldest homes in town, built by one of the founding families of Cumberland and descendants of Scottish king Robert the Bruce. Cumberland was first put on the map by George Washington, whose first command was nearby Fort Cumberland. Located in the beautiful historic district, surrounded by stunning architecture and towering church spires, the Bruce House has been functioning as a b&b since 2007. We have been the location for music videos, commercials, a PBS series, marriages, house concerts, photo shoots and much more. It’s an easy two hour drive from DC, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, and we are at the meeting point of two major bike trails. We have a thriving arts, theater and music community that draws guests from all over, and are also the site of Delfest every year.
The five beautifully appointed en suite guest rooms are all named and furnished based on history of the house and town. The owner’s quarters has a large private outdoor deck for their personal use. The first two floors boast 14 ft ceilings, large windows and lovely views. We are a brief walk to the downtown village area, scenic railway, restaurants, live theatre, and shops. We have a great reputation as the most upscale inn in the area, and are five star rated on every review platform.
Owner Pam moved here from Los Angeles to make a major life change in 2006, and is now ready to retire. I am hoping to find someone that loves this beautiful home and community as much I do. I have no plans to leave the area, and am available for any transition help and to introduce you to our beautiful little town and its welcoming inhabitants.
