Our 16th century country inn is steeped in history in the beautiful Teesdale countryside, situated 1 mile off the main trans-Pennine route from Scotland to England with over 1.6 million cars crossing this route every year. The Inn is set in a beautiful village with a ruined castle, gorgeous river running through in an area of outstanding natural beauty
We have 10 letting rooms (8 en suite) 2 with a bathroom they share set in a lovely courtyard to the rear there is ground with two outbuildings which could make a further 10 -15 rooms or 4 houses for letting. The Inn has a bar, restaurant (seats up to 70) and a lounge which we use as a coffee shop (seats up to 30) 4 lovely open fires which give the place an amazing atmosphere.
The building is well equipped with a full commercial kitchen, dry store, and full cellar facilities.
We attract customers mainly from booking.com and our website, from three areas:
Those doing outdoor activities walking (the famous Pennine Way passes by), cycling, water sports, shooting parties.
People travelling from England to Scotland or vice versa breaking their journey, often on family trips so we build up repeat business
Business travellers – more out of season and as we fill up in the summer we lose them and re-gain them in the winter.
Private accommodation is made up of 4 bedrooms above the Inn with a domestic kitchen and two bathrooms, we use two of the bedrooms for live in staff as we employ chefs. In the village is a fantastic primary school, 4 miles away in the market town is good secondary school or an amazing private school if you wanted to send your children there.
We purchased the Inn four years ago, having fallen in love with the beautiful area, as a derelict wreck, renovated it and have continued to develop it adding to it each year, now it provides a good turnover which could be increased by some experienced people to take the Inn to the next level along side being a fantastic place to make home.
